Read CNN headlines in Java program?

I'm learning Java and I came up with an exercise for myself:

I want to create a (GUI) Java program that displays headlines from www.cnn.com (I decided to start with the Crime section). The links are structured like this:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/01/29/fake...

So I pretty much have to check for the path after: http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/01/29/ (assuming I automatically set the date)

I have the idea that this is probably more difficult to achieve than it sounds, but I was wondering if anybody could give me some pointers on how to start?
