What does "proper reference to documentation" mean?

Hello, i'm writing my science report and in the rubric, for paragraph one, it says "use proper reference to documentation" . What does this mean? He's also having us write a bibliography. Is it just that? or is it like
[insert information here] (put link of url in parenthesis) ??
If not could someone explain it to me
