To prevent trees and similar items falling on the line, the vegetation is cleared along a wide margin of the track sides and good fences are erected.
Anything else (such as cars or bicycles) which gets on the line will either short out the current and cut power to the track section, or will just get hit and taken care of by the crumple zone built into such train designs where appropriate. In the UK most driverless trains are on elevated trackways or are underground, so those features are not needed as anything else which gets on the tracks will rarely be large enough to significantly damage the train.
Even trains with engineers (or drivers if you prefer) hit people, and trees, I myself have killed many trees in my career.
Eliminating the only set of eyes in the locomotive cab only makes it worse, whether you are a tree or a human.
That's why you dont seem them except in limited locations where access by trees and humans is very limited, railroads would love to eliminate us un-necessary pesky humans, they dont care much about trees.
If you are expecting some sort of sophisticated camera or sensor system to avoid objects on the track it doesnt exist.
The key word is in the YARD aka a place where people shouldn't be walking around in the first place and where trees are very few and far between. There are very few remote jobs that will go out to the main line, and even if they do someone HAS to be on the head end (or in a position to view the movement and see where it will stop) so the chances of running someone over....or a tree, are very slim. And the maximum speed on those boxes is 15.
oh sure it exists, but the details are on the side of NOT utilizing remote control. because if it worked, wed be using it today!!! problem is, as i and all the others here have stated, your going to have to accept that it cannot be done, and work.
sure you can warn a train 5 miles away of impending danger (operated or remote controlled), but how about 5 seconds? around a bend? how about things that were unforseen by the programmers (known as Murphys law) of the warning system?
simply you just need a sensing system coupled with a warning system which inturn would actuate a control system. we have all these technologies. old news! it just doesnt work better than a human can. and in most cases, human or not in the cab, whatever was dumb enough to be on the tracks in the first place is going to get hit.
trains cant swerve to miss, nor stop on a dime with change. FACT! finally, and probably the most discerning reason why remote control doesnt exist is the insurance companies. if you think they dont pay for crap now, think of all the scr****g people would be getting if they allowed remote control to exist on mainline trains! ( if the train hit a pine tree the insureco would claim they were only covered for hitting oaks! legalized fraud! )
even the railroads themselves know this isnt a good idea. sure, its fine in a yard where even if a train hits something its not gonna amount to a pile up like a full length intercity train doing 55mph would. nor the destructiuon! remote control is a liability even the stupid people in control know, is a baaaddddd idea!
you just cant beat physics!. youd have something if you can invent a braking system that can stop a train safely and very quickly while not damaging the multi-million dollar freight or the priceless Amtrak passengers! but to stop a train that quick still means someone or something is gonna eat the dashboard!
