Go Karters. Whats the best overtaking technique?I went karting at the weekend and I am now beginning to get some decent times. My practise runs are much better than my races though, this is because my racing line and control are good but I get stuck behind people and have a hard time overtaking. Obviously I don't want to tap them going round a corner because that will slow me down too, straights are few and far between (well few anyway). As both karters come into a corner and both want to use the width of the track to follow the racing line I end up having to let them use it and try to catch up again on the straights, or simply cut the corner to end up in front forcing them to brake but it still slows me down. Is there any good technique for overtaking on the corners?

I suggest keep to the outer track if you go to You Tube you will find some old films how Michael Schumacher does Go-Karting has he is a World Champion of this sport before he joined formula 1.

This wont be too much help, and paul pretty well nailed it, but you just wanna go for the best line that is available. Also, watch others at your track and see what they do. I personally race 4-wheelers, but its the same in all racing aspects. learn all your lines and also as mentioned, get experienced with your stuff. You WILL learn as you race more
one more thing. RUBIN IS RACIN! dont be afraid to give your opponent a little "love tap" to let him know not only your there, but your comin through. i do it on 4-wheelers, you can in go-karts.

Sounds as if Paul S has been around the track a few times, the kind of guy I like trading Pod Smiles with. the kind of guy you want to follow around the track as long as you can, I promise theres more than one line around that track, you just have to find them, seat time, seat time, seat time is all I can say. and if my hunch is correct, the karts your running trying to out break anyone is just not going to work, in fact the breaks are not your friend, racing to the corner is not as fast as racing through the corner, your better off entering the corner a little slower and excelerating out of it rather than breaking going into it and trying to regain momentum coming out of it. but until you figure out all the apex angles as I said Seat Time!!
