Quarter horse vs Paint horse

Quarter horse vs Paint horse? Quarter horse vs Paint horse?

What are all the differences between a quarter horse and a paint horse?

Other Answers:

American Paint Horses have strict bloodline requirements and a distinctive stock-horse body type. To be eligible for registry, a Paint's sire and dam must be registered with the American Paint Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, or the Jockey Club (Thoroughbreds). At least one parent must be a registered American Paint Horse. To be eligible for the Regular Registry, the horse must also exhibit a minimum amount of white hair over unpigmented (pink) skin. Some Paint horses are solid in color but can still be registered as "breeding stock". They must still come from registered sires and dams with at least one being a registered paint. Paints come in all sizes and colors just like quarter horses. I have two registered paints. One is a black and white (overo) and the other is solid black registered as breeding stock.

Other than color. Absolutely nothing anymore. Due to many year of irresponsible breeding the APHA need to cross into the Quarter Horse to bring foundation back into the breed. The same thing has happened to much of the Appaloosa breed.
So in short the only difference is color. I own and have owned paint horses most fo my life and there is nothing really different from a paint.

There are really only a few breeds of horses. They have just been modified to make other breeds. For example: Paints, Buckskins, Palominos are all colors not breeds; technically. I know this will cause a big stirring from people, but come on and think about it. Any breed of horse can be any color. The owner of the barn where we keep our horses has a paint draft horse. A friend at the same barn has a palomino appaloosa; double registered. I heard that the Jockey club doesn't and won't register any horse as a sorrel color and that AQHA will not register a horse as a chestnut. These are colors, not breeds. The only difference between a QH and a paint depends on the secondary breed of the paint.

Paint is a breed. It started as a registry for QH with too much white on them. Both parents, Dam & Sire need to be registered to register a Paint, just like a QH.
Pinto is a color breed. You can register any horse with color as a pinto.
I have a mare that looks like a Paint, however she is not registered as a Paint. I can however register her as a Pinto, as she has enough white on her to qualify.
In a nutshell, not, much difference. There are different lines in both breeds to do just about anything.
