Grey stallion, grey mare grey foal

Grey stallion, grey mare = grey foal? Grey stallion, grey mare = grey foal?

This is just curiosity because i find horse colours really interesting haha :)
My mare is 6 and is a silvery dapple grey, she was a steal grey when she was younger but got lighter and dappled as she aged. Now she is already probably only a few years away from being mostly white. Her mane and tail are also almost white.

The stallion is a pure white-grey with pure white mane and tail, his coat has a beautiful silver sheen to it and even when he's dirty he still seems to look luminous! He is now 12.

She is now in foal to him, both are Andalusians. So as i am keeping the foal, i am really interested in what colour it may be as it gets older? I presume that it will definitely be grey, but i'm wondering whether it is likely to white-out fast like my mare, or have the beautiful silvery shine the stallion has, and whether it'll have light mane and tail rather than dark like my other horse?
Just curious and interested :)
Thank you xx

If your mare was steely grey she was probably born black, as for the stallion he doesn't really sound like a black-grey, possibly more like a cream or chestnut grey.

I don't read into genetics, I did biology at school but I can't remember too much - it's too complicated. Chances are your youngster will grow up to be grey and will grey-out with age, and will be born dark. If the foal has white hairs around the eyes before it loses the foal coat it'll grey-out quickly - but foals change colour all the time. I've got a grey who has bay written on his papers because that's what he was when he was registered!

Depends, you have about a 75% chance of getting a grey or you could get the base color. You need to know what the Agouti for the base color of these two horses are. Steal grey is not a base color. It's just a transition color. You need to know if these horses were born chestnut or bay, etc., and if they are heterozygous or homozygous for grey.

Since the stallion is still greying out, I would say he's heterozygous for grey.

Since your mare greyed out soooo quickly, I'll take a stab at it and say she's homozygous.

Boy! This topic always gets my head spinning, lol!
