Car mileage

Car mileage? Car mileage?

Can some one explain car mileage to me...please. What I don't inderstand is what does low mileage mean? When a car's mileage reaches zero does that then mean that the car will no longer run? Is it wise to purchase a car that only has 16,029 miles? What would be considered good mileage on a used car?

Other Answers:

mileage means how many miles the car has been driven. It is a way to tell how worn it is and what the estimated life expectancy might be. 16k is not much at all. Most car companies warranty 36k and I would expect most of the major components, ei engine, transmission, etc. to last 100k.

Hope this helps.

You are kidding right?

If not 16029 miles is pretty low depending on the year of the car, 12000 miles per year is about average. If you can find one lower than that it is pretty good, but it depends on how hard the previous owner was on the car, whether it was all city or highway miles.

When they talk about good and bad mileage, they are talking about car's GAS mileage (how good it is on gas usage).

But other times, the word mileage could just mean how many miles (total) the car has.

16,029 miles is practically new. My 94 Civic has over 10 times the mileage and yet it runs like new. Normal usage is considered 12,000 to 15,000 miles per year.

Good luck...
