How do dogs regard their owners

How do dogs regard their owners? How do dogs regard their owners?

Do they see the owner (and their kids) as their pack? If there is a mother will the dog see that as their mother? How do dogs regard their owners, and if their owners have them, their families too?

Also, are dogs ever truly comfortable with the idea of other people in their territory ie. their owners territory? Or do they just feign contemplation because their owner is excepting the other people?

Complicated, but this is how I view it with the dogs in my house- I am definatly the alpha-female and they respect me and seem to prefer my company over other household members. They view my boyfriend as leader of the pack, and become submissive in his presence- the male even goes so far as to pee a little when my boyfriend pets him. They treat the children as pack members who are above themselves and the cats are treated as lower members-they need occasional reminders that the cats are not prey to be chased and harrassed. Dogs will only get truley used to visitors who come on a regular basis- all others will initially be viewed as intruders. I believe my dogs think I'm their mother-but who really knows?

my pug doesn't like strangers that come into our home or even yard, unless he sees that we walk up to them and interact. otherwise he parks and doesn't allow the stranger to pet him. he can recognize friend from stranger... it is really amazing to see how close a family can feel with their puppy :)
