Do all black horses fade? Do all black horses fade?

After my horse sheds shes pure black. Now shes starting to fade a little. By the end of summer shes really faded. So do you black horse fade. And is a faded horse still considered black or dark bay? thanks for answering.

Well you see when a horse is a baby and it starts to grow it will most likely turn into a dapple\flea bitten gray, But if your horse is black and its over 5-6yrs its coat will start fading with age.

Or... if your horse is 3-4yrs old and is black, it might fade to a nice dark brown!

No, a true black horse stays black. But as you described, some change with the seasons and how much they are in the sun. As to what color they really are, Well that depends on who is saying and what time of year it is. I have allot of 'dark bays' listed as black only because they 'Look' more like a black than a bay.

well one of my horses fade in the summer time making her fur lighter. she also went from black to dark bay. its as if you have dark brown hair, and in the summer you can get blond streaks. its perfectly normal. your horse will get back its black coat later on.

Yes they do. If she's out during the day, the sun will fade her.
