Question about diminished and augmented intervals

Question about diminished and augmented intervals?

I'm a little confused about intervals
1. What's the difference between a diminished interval and a minor interval
2. How could i tell the difference between an augmented M3 in C major and a regular M2 in C major, wouldn't they be the same?
( i have to label intervals as diminished, minor, major or augmented
