Illegal in some states, Legal in others, legal in others but heavily regulated.

If you mean the US, it depends on the local city ordinances. There is no federal blanket ban on pit bulls in the US.

basically it depends which state
i fimly believe that NO dog should be illegal. its the owners that should never be allowed to own dogs again if they train them to be aggresive, the owner should be banned not the dog!

In certain counties in certain states, yes they are. But many states are looking to reverse those horrid bans for more sensible non-breed discriminate laws, aka ones that punish the wrong doer and not the entire breed. States like FL and VA so far have kept their non-breed discriminate laws, so "pit bulls" as a whole are legal but the have laws that will punish the wrong doer in any breed. Counties like Dade county in FL had a "pit bull" ban before FL pass a law stating no breed specific legislation could be drafted, but Dade was allowed to keep theirs.

While yes FL is on the verge of reversing their, people are diligently fighting it.

No, not all states, some counties and Cities have a ban on owning the breed or a mix thereof. A lot of people argue that irresponsible owners or criminals will simply switch to a different breed of dog that hasn't been banned therefore not fixing the issue of "dangerous dog breeds"

I think the ban is mainly by individual Counties or Cities as to whether or not they ban people owning a so called dangerous breed, but haven't heard of entire states adopting the ban. In North Carolina, where I live, Pits are very popular.
