The firewall works real well. virus scan works well if you have Windows Xp then they have automatic updates. which you will see with a icon on the bottom right of the screen. if u have a comcast account u can get free mc afee You can if you want worthless protection that isnt a brand name. But if you want brand names like McPhee or Norton, you have to buy them. They're really good. Not any good ones. AVG is alright
