Typical me, the first thing came to my mind was a restaurant called "On The Border". I haven't eaten yet.

So much for mature and knowledgeable

Well, there is a saying that "good fences make good neighbours", in other words, its good to have a border to mark each person's territory. That way, people can't trample over your territory unless you invite them, and they can only stay there if it suits both of you.

I think this relates to the borders you are talking about - its good to have friends and relationships , but its also good to have your own personal space. If there were no borders between friends, nobody would have any say about who came trampling onto their space. Same applies to countries - we like to have our own national identity, and its good to be able to "vet" who comes in, and to check if they have good intentions towards our country. That's why we have laws about who can and can't come and live in our country. I'm happy to keep the system as it is now.

It is important to have borders to avoid becoming a door mat. This goes for friendships, relationships, and countries.

With no borders everyone and anyone can cross the line anytime, for any reason, with no sense of being out of line and with no respect for the person or country.
